HTC Files Patent For Tablet To Rival Apple iPad

The company filed papers for a device called the HTC Scribe at the US Patent and Trademark Office on Boxing Day.

Apple's iPad is to have new competition from HTC (PA)

In the submission, HTC describes the design 'as a handheld wireless device, namely a tablet computer'.

Other details include a 1280x780 resolution display, a 32GB memory card, 2GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi and GPS, powered by a Tegra 2 dual-core microchip.

The news comes ahead of Apple's announcement regarding the launch of the iPad2, which is expected in the next few weeks. HTC has a history of direct competition with Apple, having launched its Android-powered Evo4 3G phone just three days before the iPhone4. Motorola is also readying itself for the release of its tablet device, which will be launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. The Motorola tablet will also be Android-powered and with Google committed to this project it is thought the launch of the HTC device will be pushed into the second quarter of 2011.

Is Apple Working On 3D iPhone?

Apple has recently been awarded it's been announced a new patent for a 3D stereoscopic display system and it might be contemplating adding 3D display to its products. Although, alternatively Apple may enter into the 3D TV Business.

The document also suggests that Apple is working towards autostereoscopic display, which would let you enjoy 3D content without the help of those inconvenient glasses. The document goes further to state that the other endeavour of Apple is concerned with providing different viewing experience to different users within the same viewing environment. In simpler terms it would mean that two or more people would be able to watch different contents while sharing the same 3D screen. Sounds outlandish, right? Well, it took Apple 4 years just to get the patent of the technology, so seems like we will have to wait for pretty long time to see the actual execution of the concept.

And as for 3D iPhone, I think we all can safely assume that iPhone 5 is still going to use 2D format.
